Spilled ink doesn't necessarily mean curtains for your carpet. Watch stains disappear with this simple solution.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Saturate the ink stain with hair spray.
Step2
Allow the stain to fully dry.
Step3
Mix a solution of one part water to one part white vinegar.
Step4
Pour the solution on the stain.
Step5
Brush the area lightly with a medium-bristle brush, preferably a toothbrush.
Step6
Continue brushing until the stain is gone.
Step7
Blot the area with a dry, white cloth.
Step8
Flood the area with water.
Step9
Blot again.
Step10
Allow to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always test the cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous part of the carpet before using on a large area.
  • Brush from the outer edges of the stain inward to prevent the stain from spreading.
  • Use a white cloth rather than a colored one to prevent any dyes from coming off on the carpet.

on 7/29/2006 This works for me (even on some old ink stains).

Generously dampen the spot, working from just outside the stained area to the inside with rubbing alcohol. Follow with a clean, absorbent paper towel or rag, blotting with firm pressure.

on 7/24/2006 My dog chewed up a ballpoint pen and left several ink stains on my champagne-colored carpet. The first thing I did was get some old white socks and blot, blot, blot. In my case the ink was not completely dry (remember to turn the cloth to a new location each time or you'll smear it).

When nothing else would come up I reached for the Soilove, a product in the laundry section of some grocery stores. This stuff is amazing and has never failed to get anything out of my clothing, so I decided to give it a try. In my opinion this product should be a staple in everyones home.
I squeezed out a few drops directly on the ink and began to blot again. I went through 6 socks, so keep at it.This process took out about 75% of it.

Then I put about a teaspoon of club soda on each stain and blotted some more. Back to the Soilove, this time using a more aggressive back and forth motion with a clean sock. I let it then dry and went back with a bottle of commercial carpet cleaner and a moderately stiff brush. For such a light colored carpet I was amazed at how much came up with this method (about 95%).

Since both the Soilove and the carpet cleaner are foamy, I know that there are residuals and that I will need to get a professional cleaning, but I believe that the rest will come up at that time.

Worked for me.

on 1/25/2006 Saturate stain with milk, wait 5 minutes then soak up milk with a clean white cotton rag. Steam clean carpet - then use just hot water in shampooer and go over stained area again. It works. We cleaned up black ink off of a light blue carpet.

on 11/22/2005 To clean freshly spilled ink from your carpet, immediately drench the affected area with milk. Milk neutralizes the ink so that it won't bleed into the carpet. Use a damp white cloth or sponge to clean up the fluids. If needed, you may use a bristle brush. Let everything dry then clean the area with a carpet cleaning solution.

on 11/22/2005 Take white toothpaste and apply to each mark of ink on the carpet. Take a damp, white cloth and rub each spot gently. Let dry completly, then vacuum. Reapply if necessary.
