How to Make Miniature Crocheted Bears
Tiny crocheted teddy bears add appeal to the wrapping for a baby shower gift or a whimsical note to the table centerpieces for a birthday party or baby shower. Add personality to the basic pattern with an embroidered face or dress your teddy bear up with a vest and hat. These bears use less than an ounce of yarn and work up quickly in single crochet, making them a doable project for an intermediate crochet class or for an evening of crochet.

Form a ring about 6 inches from the end of the yarn, holding the place where the yarn crosses itself between the thumb and forefinger of your nondominant hand. Work 10 single crochet stitches in the ring. Hold the stitches lightly between your thumb and forefinger and pull the tail end of the yarn to close the ring. Slip stitch into the first single crochet stitch to join the first round.

Work nine rounds of single crochet stitches without increasing or decreasing. Break the yarn and pull it through the loop on the hook to end the first leg.

Make a second leg to match the first.

Hold the two legs side by side with the top edges together. Work one single crochet in each of the first four single crochet stitches of both legs held together to join them at the crotch. Work one single crochet in each of the next six single crochet stitches of the first leg, and one single crochet in the next six stitches of the second leg to work the first round of the body. Slip stitch into the first single crochet of the body round. Work even on 12 stitches for 2 inches, joining each row with a slip stitch.

On the next round, work two single crochet stitches in each of the first three single crochet stitches, and one single crochet stitch in each single crochet stitch around. Work one round even. On the next round, work two single crochet stitches together three times, then one single crochet stitch in each stitch to the end. Work one more round even.

Attach the yarn in one of the armhole openings. Work eight single crochet stitches around the opening and join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet stitch. Work in even rounds for 2 inches. Work two single crochet stitches together around each of the next two rounds. Break the yarn and pull it through the loop on your hook to end off. Repeat on the other side for the second arm.

Tips & Warnings
Substitute leftover yarn for the white fiberfill to avoid having the stuffing peek through the stitches.
Work with a D, E or F crochet hook to tighten stitches if the work is too loose.
