How to Dress for a Dinner and Movie Date

A dinner and a movie is a classic date. It is a typical activity for a first date and as a "date night" date for couples who have been together for a period of time. The only dress code for movie theaters is shoes and a shirt; even wacky costumes are allowed. Therefore, choose your wardrobe based on the the dress code of the restaurant you go to.

1. Dress as casually if you are viewing the movie and having dinner at home. Ask your date what he is wearing if you are unsure of what you should wear.

2. Choose the specific restaurant where you and your date will have dinner.

3. Telephone the restaurant and ask if there is any dress code the restaurant imposes.

4. Wear light colors or jeans and collared or collarless shirts, if the dress code is casual. Wear unwrinkled, collared shirts, with no tie, along with trousers, to restaurants that recommend business attire. Wear darker colors, such as a button down shirt, trousers and sport coat for him, and a black dress for her, if the dress code is casual elegant. Also, wear leather shoes.

5. Women should wear a long dress if the dress code is formal. Men should wear a suit, or possibly a tuxedo, if the dress code is formal.
