Light-colored walls make a preferable background for window curtains. Whatever curtain color or pattern you select is sure to stand out against a light wall color.
Take a look around the room at the furniture. Furniture upholstered in a solid color is already a dominant feature in the room and it is best to stay away from trying to exactly match the curtain to the furniture.
Coordinate the color of the curtains with sofa pillows, area rugs or bed coverings. When patterns are used for fabric in accessory items, choose a color that is less dominant, or a color you would like to see stand out from the other colors.
Choose a curtain color that is darker than the wall color. Matching light-colored curtains with a light wall color will result in a seemingly non-existent window and a boring wall.
