Baby Door Decorations

Door decorations are one way to announce the birth of a baby.

Door decorations are a traditional way of announcing the birth of a baby. Although it has somewhat fallen out of fashion to put them on the front door to welcome a new baby home, the decorations are still often used for baby showers, in hospitals and on nursery doors.

Baby Wreath

Classic baby wreaths are made of a form wrapped in satin ribbon and decorated with baby washcloths rolled into flower shapes. A few pacifiers dangle from the top of the wreath and accents such as plastic baby buggies or clusters of faux pearls are nestled among the flowers. Today's wreaths are usually made as baby shower decorations and given to the mom-to-be to hang on the nursery door.

Decorative Letters

Decorative letters are one way to decorate a baby's bedroom door. Simply use the first letter of the baby's name or her entire initials. If the first name is short, like Ben or Ella, make letters for the entire name. You can paint wooden letters or cover them with coordinating fabrics.

Birth Announcement

A baby birth announcement consists of a canvas painted in colorful polka dots or stripes with all of a baby's details: name, date and time of birth, length and weight. It hangs on a door by a wide satin ribbon. Announcement decorations are most often placed on the hospital door and then transferred to the home nursery door.
