Job Description for an FMLA Benefits Analyst

A Family Medical Leave (FMLA) benefits analyst (or FMLA Specialist) is responsible for evaluating and administrating reported FMLA requests from employees to see whether their requests are complaint to state and federal regulations, as well as demonstrating the best practices among an organization. The benefits analyst also work with employees in terms of FMLA issues with employees, and benefits vendors.

  1. Requirements

    • There are several requirements to consider with being a FMLA benefits analyst, including obtaining a high school diploma or GED, and one to three years experience working in human resources, particularly with FMLA administration. Having a knowledge of state and federal regulations is also a plus. The person must be a problem solver as well as prioritize her time in an organized manner. Being proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with having strong communication and verbal skills, are required for this position.

    Responsibilites

    • Responsibilities include creating FMLA claims for employees and tracking requests throughout the organization's systems, as well as analyzing FMLA claims to determine employee eligibility and whether they are compliant with state and federal regulations. The analyst may also supply technical support and advice concerning FMLA regulations, and coordinate employees' benefits while on FMLA.

    Salary

    • Depending on an individual's qualifications pertaining to this position, according to Salary.com, in August 2010, the average salary for a FMLA benefits analyst is $49,000 a year.
