Art is an illusion

"From the point of view of art, there are no concrete or abstract forms, but only forms which are more or less convincing lies." Pablo Picasso

Digital art is a computer representation of pixels or lines that make up an image. Software programs interpret images numerically. The argument exists among artists: is digital art really art?

    • Differences
      Differences

Differences between digital and traditional art are few. Digital art can be easily mass produced, while traditional art is more time-consuming. While traditional art can be digitized, the question remains, is the artist's internal rhythm missing in digital art? Can a computer interpret an artist's desire and emotional connection to the work?

      Culture determines art aesthetics

Artistic taste relies on a culture. In past traditional art movements, art patrons were sometimes aghast by the "new" works being displayed. Art movements changed the technique of a familiar form, however, representing the idea of art in a different perspective.

Like traditional art styles, digital art is a new form that depends on technique and skills. Knowledge of traditional art theories are imperative to creating intelligent digital art.

All art is an illusion. A painter creates the image of a flower from lines and dots, colors and shapes. A paint brush or a fingertip become a tool for art creation. The computer, like a paint brush, is a tool. Digital art is merely another expression from within an artist's soul.
