Especially during the holiday season, most of us carry baking dishes to parties and potlucks. And we all want to take our own dishes home. I’m not sure why I think my 9-by-13 Pyrex baking dish is different from yours, but I do — and I want it back.
If you’re like me and millions of others, you’ve probably marked your baking dishes with tape and marker. And you’ve probably found tape floating in the sink at the end of the night or squinted at the bottom of a dozen baking dishes, trying to decipher washed out marker.
The other day I got the idea of etching my initials into the bottom of my Pyrex baking dishes. I found instructions for using the etching cream in an eHow article about making etched glass hostess gifts. It took about 15 minutes and worked like a charm.
Now my baking dishes are permanently marked, and the markings are dishwasher proof, oven proof, and just plain pretty. Come to think of it, monogrammed baking dishes would make a nice gift. Mom — if you’re reading this, please forget everything I just wrote.
