How Low Should a Ceiling Fan Be in a Cathedral Ceiling?
-
Cooling Capability
-
Even if you have high cathedral ceilings, your ceiling fan still needs to hang low enough to cool the occupants of the room. If a fan is placed too high, it requires more force to circulate air around the room. In that situation, the room's occupants will not feel the full force of the circulating air.

Design Considerations
-
One of the advantages of cathedral ceilings is the height and feeling of airiness that they provide. This is an important design element that you would not want to ruin by placing a ceiling fan too low.
Bottom Line
-
In general, place your ceiling fan 8 to 9 feet above the floor. Use extended mounts to hang the fan at this height. If you want to hang it higher than this, purchase a fan with larger blades. This will allow the fan more power to circulate air around the room from a greater height.
