Definition of Throw Bedding

Think of throw bedding as jewelry for your bed: You take it off at night and put it back on in the morning. While these pretty pillows and small blankets are not required for a good night's sleep, they add an element of style to your bed. Because they're decorative, you can easily change them out with the seasons or as your tastes change.

Pillow Talk

  • Throw pillows come in different sizes, and any color or pattern you can dream up. Choose up to five pillows that coordinate with your bedding. Start with two large, square toss pillows and place a smaller one, or a few, in front of them. The accent pillows may be round, lumbar or bolster style to add variety.

Blanket Statement

  • Throw blankets are usually folded at the foot of the bed or casually draped across it. Choose a blanket in a complementary color if you have solid bedding. For patterned duvets, pick out an accent color for your blanket. Fluffy wool and soft fleece blankets provide warmth and coziness during cold months. When it warms up, use lightweight cotton to add texture and as an extra layer for drafty air-conditioned spaces.
