Neurocardiogenic syncope (also known as vasovagal syncope) is the most common cause of fainting. To treat the condition holistically will require a treatment of the major body difficulties leading up to fainting, which are low blood pressure and poor circulation. It will also require treatment before and after the fainting occurs.

Low Blood Pressure

Neurocardiogenic syncope (NS) is often accompanied with a drop of blood pressure in a patient who is already hypotensive. By remedying hypotension, you can prevent the occurrence of fainting. B-complex vitamins, especially pantothenic acid, help to raise energy, stamina, and blood pressure levels. Vitamin C and bioflavonoids maintain the wall strength of blood vessels, and vitamin E helps to improve oxygen supply in cells. Low blood pressure may be caused by an iodine deficient thyroid, and thus a supplementation of kelp may improve thyroid and blood pressure levels. Herbal remedies like hyssop can help to raise blood pressure along with drinking the juice of rosemary steeped in aged red wine. Other herbs that may increase low blood pressure are Siberian ginseng, goldenseal, ginger root, spirulina and Gingko biloba.

Poor Circulation

Poor circulation can be the cause of plaque buildups and poor oxygen supply. Essential fatty acids like those in evening primrose oil can stop plaques from developing and can reduce the stickiness of blood platelets. Another supplement that accomplishes this is phosphatidylcholine. Vitamins C, E, and bioflavonoids are important. Another nutrient to add to the mix is coenzyme Q10, as it can increase cellular oxygen updake. Hawthorn berries can regulate circulation and fortify the heart. Horsetail can improve circulation be strengthening the tissues of artery and vein walls. A few other herbs that can help are bilberries, cayenne and garlic. There are also multiple homeopathic remedies like Arsenicum, Lachesis, and Secale, but you should see a licensed homeopathic doctor before figuring out which one is right for you.

Fainting and Revival

A home remedy that may prevent fainting spells is a mixture of 1 cup of mineral water, 2 tablespoons, of apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons of non-pasteurized honey. This can help a patient who may seem like she is about to faint. When a person does suddenly faint, you can put a few drops of peppermint oil on a handkerchief and use it to cover the nose until she comes to. A similar result is reached by cutting half an onion and putting it under the nose or using a cloth soaked in apple cider vinegar. After she has regained consciousness, use an herbal tea with ginger or licorice to help stimulate circulation. People who have fainting spells can also feel better after having an herbal tea of basil. Other herbs that may help to revive a fainting victim are mint, rosemary, lavender and vanilla bark. You should never force a person who has fainting to stand up; let her lie down until she is ready to get up on her own power.
