Hello my name is Dr. Stephen Handy, and I am a dermatologist associated with South Beach Dermatology in Miami Beach, Florida. Let's talk about scabies cures. Scabies is a highly contagious human to human passed parasite, which causes intense itching in the skin. It is most symptomatic between the fingers, on the elbows, and in then in the groin area. It never gets on the head, it is never on the face or head. Scabies is an insect so consequently you must in order to effectively kill scabies one must use an insecticide of some sort. There are a variety of over-the-counter insecticides most containing malathion or permethrin, but most of the good ones are a prescription that you will need to receive from your physician. If a patient has severe scabies they may use a drug called ivermectin, which again is available from your dermatologist or family practitioner. Because it is such a contagious problem it is very important if someone has severe itching that it is though to be scabies they should avoid contact with other people.
