If someone came to me and told me they felt they had the stomach flu they may not know exactly what they are talking about. It could be the flu that is usually caused by a viral infection which you can get a rotavirus infection of the gut, stomach that causes nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, malaise and is treatable by rest, hydration and symptomatic treatment of fever, nausea and the diarrhea. You can also have bacterial causes of the gut problem called gastroenteritis and this you want to treat depending on what the antibiotic is with a specific antibiotics to treat the same symptoms of nausea, diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Over the counter drugs can be used in what we refer to commonly as the stomach flu to help treat symptoms. Those symptoms would be fever, you would use Tylenol, Advil. You would treat the nausea to prevent vomiting and just add comfort and we would treat the diarrhea to prevent dehydration and usually the treatment of diarrhea and nausea will prevent the vomiting and diarrhea which do lead to dehydration that can be the major complication of gastroenteritis or stomach flu. Antibiotics don't work on the rotavirus infection of the stomach or gut if you have a bacterial infection and they can isolate that bacterial then yes that can aid in treatment of the disorder but sometimes antibiotics are given when it is actually a viral infection and this can complicate the diarrhea which can make dehydration possibility worse.
