Today, we are going to talk about how to use dark and light colors of one shade to paint a room. Hi I'm Mary Lawlor, manager of color marketing for Kelly-Moore Paints. Today we are on location at the Kelly-Moore store in Modesto, California. Using dark and light shades of one color in a room is called a monochromatic paint scheme. It is one of the most comfortable and relaxing paint schemes to use in your room. This look is pretty easy to achieve. To do so you'll want to use three colors. A dark, a medium, and a light color. Or perhaps a light color and two medium colors depending on your taste. I've selected these three colors to be used. And the conditions in the room will determine how we use them. If you have a very well-lit room you'll probably want to stay to the lighter color to use on all of your walls. If you have a dimly lit room you want to cozy that up and enhance it with a darker colors on the walls. The light color can be used on your trim and your ceilings. Another way that you can use the dark and light colors in a room is to create some corrections to perhaps situations in the room. Perhaps you have a very tall ceiling that you want to lower. Put that darker color up on the ceiling and it will bring that down. If you have a long narrow room you may want to put that darker color on both ends and it will kind of draw it in and make the room look a little bit more square for you. This is Mary Lawlor.
