Hello, everyone. I'm Joshua Clement with Lighty Contractors, and today I'm going to talk to you about finding out if your hot water element needs to be replaced. For this, we're going to be using two different tools. First of all, we'll be using a flat head screwdriver. Next, we're going to be using an electric meter. And when you have your electric meter, you want to switch it to continuity. What continuity does is it tells you if you have a solid connection between a piece of wire from one end to the other, of if there's a break in it. With this, I actually have one that creates a sound; you can also see it right through here. Once I touch it, those go crazy, which means I have a good connection. You ca also hear the sound. Now, if you don't have a connection, that will read a one and you won't have a very good sound. So, let's get started. First of all, you want to remove the screw that's holding your face plate on. Next, you're going to peel back the insulation and move these wires out of the way. Take your meter and if you see here, this is your element. You want to place one of these prongs on each screw. As you can hear there, we actually have a good connection, so we know that our element is still good. If it won't read in or anything, it means you need to replace your element. I'm Joshua Clement with Lighty Contractors, thanks for watching and good luck with this project.
