When shoes are a little too big, your heels can slip up out of the back. This can cause painful irritation as your skin rubs the back of the shoes while you walk. But instead of relegating the ill-fitting footwear to the back of your closet, you can remedy the situation with a few easy, affordable fixes that can be found at your local discount store.

Force the foot against the heel cup and prevent slipping with tongue pads. Remove the plastic that covers the adhesive and press the pads into the underside of the shoe tongues (the flap of material under the laces).

Use heel grips or heel pads. Peel the paper from the adhesive back and press firmly into the heels of problematic shoes. These products are specially made to fit into the backs of shoes and cause traction with your skin which helps hold the shoe in place.

Place cushion halters in shoes with straps or sling backs. Pull the cover off the adhesive and stick the halter onto the inner sole area under the ball of the foot to stop the foot from pushing forward and opening up the space in front of the strap.

Cut a 3 inch by 1 inch piece of moleskin. Peel off the paper backing and press firmly onto the inside of the heel. If the shoe still slips, cut another piece and place it on top of the first.
