How to Convert AI to ICO

An icon (ICO) file is a simple bitmap file with the file extension of "ICO." ICO files are utilized for icons on the desktop and in the file system. An AI file is a file created in Adobe Illustrator. Adobe Illustrator creates vector drawings and graphics that may be converted to the bitmap format. Once the vector graphic is converted to a bitmap, save the bitmap file with the file extension of ICO to create an icon file.

Step 1

Open the AI graphic in Adobe Illustrator. To do this, double0click on the AI file. The file opens in the Adobe Illustrator interface.

Click the "Selection" tool from the top navigation bar, then click on the AI vector graphic.

Click the "Object" option on the top navigation bar, then click "Rasterize." The Rasterize window opens.

Step 4

Adjust the color of the graphic or any other editable properties in the Rasterize window and click "OK." The vector graphic is converted to the bitmap format.

Click the "File" option from the top navigation bar, then click "Save As." The File Save box opens.

Click the "Save as Type" drop-down box, and click "All Files."

Type the name of the file plus the ".ico" file extension and place the file name and extension in quotes. For example, "graphic.ico" saves the bitmap as a file named "graphic" with the ".ico" icon file extension. The AI file is convert to an ICO file.
