Whether you want to keep home-baked rolls fresher for longer or prevent store-bought rolls from going stale, store them properly. Selecting the best method for keeping your rolls fresh depends on whether you will be using the rolls within the next few days or if you want to keep and use them over the next month.

Storing Rolls

Fresh-baked rolls should always be allowed to cool completely before you store them for eating later on. If you plan to eat the rolls within two days, store them side by side in a paper bag or bread box. To keep rolls fresh for a longer period of time on the counter, line them side by side on a large sheet of wax paper. Fold the wax paper over the rolls, creasing the sides so that air does not reach the rolls and cause them to become stale.

Freezing Rolls

Freezing fresh rolls keeps them from going stale or getting moldy. To freeze freshly baked rolls, cool them first, because any heat left in the rolls will cause moisture to form in the plastic, and ice crystals will form on the rolls when you freeze them. After the rolls are completely cooled, put them in a heavy plastic freezer bag, seal the bag and place it in the freezer. To use a roll, remove one from the freezer and allow it to thaw on the counter. Use the roll after it is thawed or warm it in the oven by placing it on a baking sheet and heating it at 350 F for 15 minutes.
