Search the web to find the letters or message you want to engrave on your sandstone. Print the letters or message on a computer printer using the same size letters you want on your sandstone.

Use an X-acto knife to cut out the letters from the printout. When you finish cutting out the letters, use the printout as your template. Lay the template on the sandstone. Draw and color the letters onto the sandstone by using a pencil or paint to color inside the cutout letters of the template. If you use a pencil make sure the color is dark enough to clearly see it against the stone.

Put on safety goggles and a dust mask to prevent inhaling the dust that will fly from using a dremel tool. Use a dremel tool with a carbide blade to engrave the letters that you drew and colored on the sandstone.

Drill as deep into the stone as you want based on the look you are trying to achieve. Brush off the residue with your hand or a soft cloth.
