How to Make a Bottle Rack for Baby Calves

Calves may need to be bottle fed during the first few months of life.

During the first months of a calf's life it needs to be bottle fed, which can be an extremely tiring job for a farmer. Creating a bottle rack for your calves' bottles is a time-saving way to feed calves whenever they need to eat. Creating this calf bottle rack allows a farmer to place up to seven bottles in a rack, so the calves can feed when they desire.

Things You'll Need:

  • Drill
  • Phillip'S Head Drill Bit
  • Pencil
  • Wood Glue
  • Tape Measure
  • Two 5-Inch Screws
  • Two 1-By-6 Inch Boards 39 1/2 Inches Long
  • Eight 1 X 6 Inch Boards, 5 Inches Long
  • Two 1/4-Inch Lattice Strips, 39 And 1/2 Inches Long
  • One Box 2-Inch Screws

Lay the 39 and ½-inch board on a flat surface, running horizontally. Measure over one inch from the left end, and mark this location. Measure over four and one-half inches from the one-inch mark, and mark this location. Repeat this process until you mark the entire length of the board. Repeat this process with the second 1 X 6 inch board, that is 39 and ½ inches long.

Apply wood glue at every one-inch space along the top of one board. Press the six-inch edge of the 1 X 6 X 5 inch boards along each of the eight one-inch spaces.

Apply wood glue at every one-inch space, along the top of the second 1 X 6 X 39 and ½ inch board, and press the one-inch spaces to the top of all eight 1 X 6 X 5 inch boards, to create the bottle holder.

Drive two two-inch screws through each side of each of the eight one-inch locations, along the two 39 and ½-inch boards, to join all ten sections of wood together, permanently.

Place the bottle holder in a standing position, so that all seven cubby holes are visible from the top. Measure in two inches from each end, and place one 1/4-inch lattice strip at each location, along the top of the bottle holder.

Drive one screw through each end of the lattice strip, to join it with the bottle holder. Face this side down to install.

Hold the bottle holder along two posts, in the calf’s pen. Drive one five-inch screw through each post ,into the bottle holder, to join it to the pen. Insert bottles for feeding.
