Despite the alcohol in the ingredients, nobody becomes intoxicated by eating a moist, delicious rum cake because all of the alcohol is burned off during the baking process. Rum cakes usually contain fruits and nuts and are a traditional Caribbean dessert enjoyed during holidays and special religious events, including christenings.

Refrigerating

Place the cake into an airtight container. Make sure the container is large enough to accommodate the cake and will not cause it to become crushed.

Place a label on the container that contains the date the cake was placed into the refrigerator.

Store the cake on any rack of the refrigerator for up to five days.

Remove the cake and microwave a slice for 10 to 20 seconds to warm it up before serving.

Freezing

Place the cake into a sealed freezer bag. Do not use ordinary plastic bags, as these will not protect the cake during freezing.

Place a label on the container that contains the date the cake was placed into the freezer.

Store the cake in the freezer for up to three months. Thaw the cake inside of the refrigerator for 12 hours or overnight before serving.
