The ancient Japanese art form for paper folding is referred to as origami. Dollar bill arts and crafts use the paper folding technique to create different objects such as flowers, polo shirts or knives. The simple folds used to create the knife are a great way to practice and master repetitive folding patterns to create other dollar bill objects. The knife folding pattern is also the base for other origami shaped weapons such as the ninja paper sword.

Place your dollar bill on your table top horizontally. The side of the bill facing the table will be the exposed pattern on the finished knife.

Fold the bill horizontally in half. Crease the fold and open. You will have a visible center fold line.

Fold the bottom edge of the bill towards the center fold line. Crease the fold.

Fold the top edge of the bill towards the center fold line. Crease the fold.

Fold the bill horizontally in half as in Step 2. The knife will begin to form. Keep in mind that you will have an open side of the folded knife, referred to as flaps.

Fold one tip of the flap inward towards the center fold line. It will appear triangle shaped.

Fold the remaining tip of the flap inward towards the center fold line. Although your knife’s point will begin to form, you will have two protruding points at the bottom of the flaps.

Fold each protruding point inwards carefully. This will give the knife point a slightly rounded appearance to complete your dollar bill knife.
