Things You'll Need

  • Empty Husqvarna brand bobbin compatible with your machine

  • Sewing thread

Winding the bobbin is a simple process on Husqvarna Viking sewing machines.

Most Husqvarna Viking sewing machines will have one of two different bobbin winding mechanisms. Many of the older models have fixed position side-winding bobbins, while the newer machines, such as the "Designer" series, have bobbin winding mechanisms on the top of the machine that latch into place when engaged. You may need to consult the manual for your own machine to find model-specific threading diagrams.

Step 2

Pull the thread from under the presser foot and bring it up over the thread guide to the bobbin. Wind the thread two or three turns clockwise around the empty bobbin. Push the bobbin pin down so that the winding mechanism engages.

Step 3

Press the foot pedal to start the winding motor. The needle will not move when the winding mechanism is engaged. The motor will stop when the bobbin is full. Push the bobbin pin back up to its original position. Cut the thread and remove the bobbin from the pin. To wind the bobbin without the needle threaded, consult your manual. Each machine has a different feeding process.

Step 2

Pull the bobbin-winding arm out from the right side of the machine. Pull the thread from the needle under the presser foot and through the winding arm to the bobbin. Wind two or three turns counterclockwise around the bobbin.

Step 3

Press the foot pedal to start the winding motor. The needle will not move when the winding arm is pulled out. Some models will stop automatically when the bobbin is full; others require you to release the presser foot. Cut the thread, remove the bobbin from the bin and replace the winding arm. To wind the bobbin without the needle threaded, consult your manual. Each machine has a different feeding process.

Tip

Make sure that your bobbin is compatible with your model of machine. Husqvarna makes several different types of bobbins, and not all are universal.

Warning

Never pull the thread directly from the needle; always pull it from under the presser foot. Otherwise, your needle may bend or even break.
