Plastic bottles fill our landfills and create so much garbage, but they do not have to be waste. They can be beautiful decorated plastic bottles to place flowers in, or used as decoration around the house and as an interesting conversation piece. Decorated plastic bottles can become pencil or pen holders, or maybe hold paintbrushes in an art room. Decorated plastic bottles can be used for many handy purposes and all you need is a little bit of time to decorate them.

Things You'll Need

  • Newspaper
  • Spray paint
  • Liquid plastic paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Markers
  • Glue
  • Sea glass
  • Beads

Spread newspaper out flat on a work table and place your plastic bottle on it in an upright position.

Spray paint the plastic bottle until it is completely covered in paint. Open the window to allow the paint fumes to escape easily so they don’t give you a headache. If you do not want to spray paint, you can take some plastic paint and paint the bottle with a paint brush in a solid color.

Allow the paint to dry on the plastic bottle for 30 minutes. The plastic paint may take twice as long to dry.

Squirt liquid plastic paints onto your paper plate for easier use when painting.

Paint a design onto the plastic bottle or use markers to draw and color in a design on the plastic bottle instead. You may choose to glue objects onto the bottle, such as sea glass and colored beads, to help give a more decorative look.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not want to decorate your plastic bottle with plastic paints, cover a bottle with a thin layer of glue and roll it in glitter for a sparkly decorated bottle.
