How to Fix Faux Leather Couch Holes

Repair any holes in your faux leather sofa.

Once it's patched, it becomes nearly invisible and guests have no way of knowing that you once had an unsightly tear or hole in the couch.

1. Clean the area around the hole completely using a rag and rubbing alcohol. If you purchased a patch kit, the kit may include a rubbing alcohol wipe. Dry the area.

2. Apply a leather conditioner to the area surrounding the hole to allow the leather compound to adhere better. Wait at least 24 hours before continuing the process.

3. Cut the patch a little larger than the hole into a circular shape and place it on the underside of the hole.

4. Apply repair compound where the patch touches the leather and allow it to dry completely. Don't apply globs of the compound and expect it to dry on its own. It should take approximately 10 to 15 minutes, but you can use a hair dryer -- held no closer than 12 to 18 inches from the surface -- to accelerate drying time.

5. Apply multiple layers of repair compound for larger or deeper holes. Applying the compound multiple times ensures a stronger repair.

6. Smooth the area out using an alcohol wipe, but only go over the surface a couple of times or you may remove the repairing compound.

7. Mix together the colorant necessary for your couch. A leather repair kit has several color options to select from. Apply the colorant in several thin layers, as opposed to one thick layer, to prevent cracking and flaking. Let it dry completely before sitting on the sofa.
