Solicitors who knock on doors to sell services or products are not only an annoyance, they can also compromise the safety of your home and family. Many jurisdictions have ordinances that govern how and when solicitors can approach a residence. If you feel a solicitor is breaking any local ordinance, do not hesitate to call the police for assistance. Keeping solicitors from knocking on doors in the first place may be the best solution, however.

Things You'll Need

  • Cardboard
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • Duct tape
  • Mounting hardware
  • Tools
  • Ready-made sign

Make a small, but easily readable sign that reads simply "No Solicitors." Use a black marker and write boldly and clearly onto a piece of cardboard. Cut the cardboard out around the words to make a sign.

Contact your local municipality and inquire if they have "No Soliciting" signs available for city residences. If they do, consider using one of these signs.

Purchase a ready-made "No Soliciting" sign from any home-improvement or discount store if you would rather not make one.

Affix the sign to the center of the door at a height that is roughly eye level. A simple and fast way to attach the sign is duct tape. Use mounting hardware, if desired.
