How to Make a Scarecrow Costume. As Halloween approaches, we begin to formulate costume ideas. Who hasn't watched the "Wizard of Oz" repeatedly and delighted in the antics of the lively scarecrow? This is an easy costumes to make. Using many common items, you can assemble it in an afternoon.

Cut fabric remnants into squares of different sizes. Use craft glue to attach the square to the jeans or overalls and the flannel shirt. Let dry. If you want to reuse the clothes, you can sew the patches on to be removed later.

Grab the end of each raffia piece and shred, to give the appearance of straw.

Glue raffia shreds to inside of the shirt and pant cuffs, leaving some hanging out. This is essential for the scarecrow look. Stuff some "straw" in pockets if desired.

Glue a small fabric patch on the straw hat. Embellish with old silk flowers--sunflowers look great for this step. Attach more shredded raffia to the inside of the brim, leaving the shreds hanging out of the hat.

Use makeup to outline the eyes with triangles. Fill in the triangles with a bright color. Outline the nose in the same way, using black. Add two bright red circles on the cheeks. Paint the lips with black and make stitch marks to make it appear sewn.
