How to Draw Permanent Pictures on Ceramic

You don't have to be a ceramic artist to permanently decorate your own ceramic mugs. With liquid porcelain pens and a conventional oven you can bake your original drawings onto your favorite mugs.

You can add designs to a plain ceramic mug.
  1. Wash the ceramic piece in dishwashing soap to clean off any oil or dirt on the surface.

  2. Start drawing on your ceramic piece with a spring-loaded, fiber-tip paint marker, such as Porcelaine 150 pens, which you can buy at a craft store. Prep the pens by shaking and then pushing down a couple of times on the point of the pen. Draw any images you please and let them dry. If you mess up, you can wipe it off with a wet cloth.

  3. Heat oven to 300 degrees F. Bake the ceramic pieces in the oven for 30 minutes, then let them cool. Once cooled, the designs should be permanently fixed to your ceramic and you can use them
