How to Build a Cupcake Stand For Less Than $5

Save

A cupcake stand can be expensive to buy or rent. As long as you don't plan to use it again, a homemade cardboard stand can fulfill the function of a cupcake stand. If you don't count the cost of a hot glue gun, the stand can be put together for under $5.

Things You'll Need

  • Cardboard box
  • Tubular salt boxes
  • Hot glue
  • Ribbon (optional)
  • Scissors

Cut out the circles for each tier from a large piece of cardboard. Start out with a large circle, which will serve as the bottom platter, then make the next one smaller than the last. Use actual items, such as a platter, a dinner plate and a salad bowl as guides to cut around.

Spray paint the circles. Allow the paint to dry on one side before spray painting the other.

Remove the salt box labels, then spray paint the salt box the same color as the stand. When the box is dry, cut it in half.

Use a hot glue gun to place hot glue around the bottom of a salt box. Center it on the first and largest tier of the cupcake stand. Put a dab of hot glue on the top rim of the salt box and attach the next tier to that box. Do the same for the other half of the salt box.

Bead hot glue on the rims of the circles. Attach ribbon or other decorative items to the glue.
