Artificial fruit decorations are very popular, especially in the fall. Even when you don't have a fruit décor, you can use the decorations for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Many Christmas wreaths are also made with artificial fruit. There are so many decorations to choose from, including fruit bowls or baskets, wreaths, garland and hanging tree decorations. These are easy crafts that don't take very long to complete. These are great projects that the entire family can do together.
Things You'll Need
- Decorative bowl
- Artificial fruit
- Long strings of berries
- Artificial leaves
- Cornucopia basket
- Metal wreath
- Craft wire
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Flower foam
Make a fruit bowl. Place some flower foam in the bottom of the bowl and then arrange the fruit on top of it. Have some grapes hang over the side of the bowl. Use as many different types of fruit as you can find. For fall decoration, add some walnuts or a small pumpkin.
Make a cornucopia basket. Stuff the pointy end with crumpled up paper or flower foam. Use oranges, a pineapple and grapes. Berries and bananas also work well. To dress it up, add some fall leaves or spring flowers, depending on the season. Fill the basket and have it overflowing with fruit on a decorative tray.
Make a fruit wreath. Take a metal wreath starter and wind a string of berries through it. If they come on wire, it will stay in place by wrapping the ends of the wire around the wreath. If the berries come on string, then tie it on with small pieces of string or craft wire. The individual pieces of fruit can then be arranged and hot glued on or if they are too thin and melt, poke craft wire through the back and tie onto the wreath.
Make fruit garland. Measure the area you want the garland to hang and then add 6 inches for the ends and sloping the garland. String the fruit by sticking the craft wire through the back 1/3 of the piece. If it is too thick for the wire to poke a hole, use a pin and move it around to make the hole large enough to fit the wire through. Make a hook from the end of the wire by looping it and wrapping it around itself at the end of the loop. Take a string of berries and work it between the fruit from one end of the garland to the other. Tie or twist the ends of the berries onto the garland and hang.
