Remove all sources of attraction to the ants. Put away all food and temporarily move your pet's dishes to a new location, far away from the area the ants are invading.

Wipe down all of your counters and your sink with ammonia or another household cleaner.

Fill a spray bottle with half vinegar and half water. Spray the areas where you have seen the ants congregating. If possible, spray them when they are active, and follow them to find where they are entering your home. If you are successful in finding this location, spray that area heavily. You will need to repeat this periodically until you are certain they are gone.

Place ant bait traps in areas where you have seen ants. This will help prevent the ants from returning to your home. Once they ants go into the traps they are unable to leave. Most bait traps contain an insecticide to kill them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Other deterrents to ants include cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves, pepper, peppermint oil and cayenne pepper.
  • Place all insecticides out of the reach of children and pets.
