A pre-lit Christmas tree, as the name indicates, comes with lights attached. This saves you the time and headache of trying to string lights from the top to the bottom of the tree without missing any spots. There are some things you should consider before purchasing one of these trees.
Choose the height of your pre-lit Christmas tree. Just as any other tree, pre-lit Christmas trees come in all sizes. Shorter trees make a nice decoration while a larger tree can act as your primary Christmas tree for years to come.
Pick the colors of the lights on your pre-lit Christmas tree. Most Christmas tree lights come either with all white lights or an assortment of colors (typically red and green). It's important to know what you want, as you won't be able to change the colors of the lights on your tree after you buy it.
Notice how much room is left on the tree for more lights and decorations. Many people choose to add more lights to a pre-lit Christmas tree (such as colored lights to a pre-lit tree covered in white lights). If you don't want to add lights, you will probably wish to place ornaments and other items to your pre-lit Christmas tree. Unfortunately, some pre-lit Christmas trees make this a very difficult task. Look to see where the lights are positioned and make sure that you can add items to your tree easily.
Learn what happens when one of the lights goes out on your tree. When this occurs on most pre-lit Christmas trees, you can usually simply replace that one bulb. On some trees, however, all of the lights will go out when one fails. Ask a sales associate at the store about this before you spend money.
Go to a variety of stores and look at different pre-lit Christmas trees. This will allow you to see the brightness of the lights on the tree in person. You will also be able to determine if the tree looks too fake or artificial (as some pre-lit Christmas trees do). Visit at least three different stores before making a final decision.
