How to Scotchgard a Handbag. Keep handbags looking clean and new longer by spraying them with fabric protectant. Once you put Scotchgard on your handbag, it will resist spills, smudges and stains. Then you may have to get more creative in your reasons for buying another purse.
Use Scotchgard on a purse if it's made of cotton, wool, leather, polyester, nylon or silk. Test your purse by spraying a small amount of the Scotchgard Fabric & Upholstery Protector on an inconspicuous place. You want to make sure they spray does not cause any color bleeding.
Go outdoors or into the garage. Put your handbag on 3 layers of newspaper. Hold the can of Scotchgard about 12 inches away from the purse and spray it evenly on all sides, turning the bag as needed. Make sure you get the handles completely covered. This keeps them looking new.
Hang the handbag up to dry undisturbed. Let it dry for at least 24 hours, longer if it's humid or cold. Proper ventilation will help it dry.
