How to Get Grape Juice Out of a White Tablecloth

Angela LaFollette

Accidentally spilling grape juice onto a white tablecloth may cause you to panic. While the stain looks impossible to remove, you can restore the tablecloth instead of throwing it in the trash. Grape juice stains are best treated when they are fresh.

Leaving the grape juice on the fabric gives it time to set, which can result in a damaged tablecloth. Remove the grape juice stain with items around your home to restore the white tablecloth to its original condition.

  1. Run cold water over the grape juice stain for two to three minutes to flush it.

  2. Pour lemon juice over the grape juice stain. Scrub on the stain with an old toothbrush. Allow the tablecloth to air dry.

  3. Combine 1 tbsp. white distilled vinegar with 1/2 tsp. liquid laundry detergent if the grape juice stain remains. Pour the mixture into one quart of warm water. Soak the stain for 15 minutes and then rinse the tablecloth with clean water.

  4. Launder the white tablecloth with your preferred detergent and the hottest water setting possible. Add 1/2 cup chlorine bleach to the dispenser to help whiten the tablecloth.

  5. Remove the tablecloth from the washing machine. Hang the tablecloth to dry.

  6. Blot the stain with rubbing alcohol or undiluted white vinegar if it remains. Launder the tablecloth with chlorine bleach again and hang it to dry. Repeat the stain removal process until you remove the grape juice from the tablecloth.

  7. Tip

Always read the care label on the tablecloth before you treat it to prevent damage to the fabric. Test cleaning solutions on small hidden areas to ensure that you do not ruin the tablecloth.

    Warning

Never place the tablecloth in the dryer until you remove the stain completely, because the heat causes the stain to become permanent.

Avoid using natural soaps when laundering the tablecloth, because they can make the grape juice stain more difficult to remove.
