There's nothing more exciting than ordering a new leather jacket. Unfortunately, when the jacket arrives by mail and it's packed tightly in a box, it often emerges a wrinkly mess. The same wrinkles can occur with an older leather jacket that you have had in a storage box. Instead of spending a lot of money sending the leather jacket to a professional, there are some great tips that will help you get rid of wrinkles and proudly wear your smooth leather jacket.
Things You'll Need
- Pressing cloth or handkerchief
Lay the leather jacket out on a flat surface and place a pressing cloth, which can be purchased at most sewing supply stores, or clean handkerchief over the wrinkle.
Gently press an iron, set at warm temperature, over the cloth for a few seconds. Use quick motions so you do not damage the leather.
Hang the leather jacket on a hanger in the bathroom when you are taking a hot shower. The steam from the shower should encourage the wrinkles to relax.
Place the leather jacket in the dryer on low heat for a short period of time. The heat of the dryer should relax the wrinkles out of the jacket.
Store the leather jacket in a dry area, with lots of air circulation. The leather jacket should be hung on a sturdy wooden hanger.
Regularly cleaning and conditioning your leather jacket will help keep the leather soft and supple and it will discourage wrinkles.
Do not store the leather jacket in a plastic bag, because it will encourage mildew.
