How to Pack Light: 12 Pieces, 8 Looks

eHow Style Blog

I’ll be honest, it has never easy for me to pack light because I always pack for those just in case scenarios. However, I have figured out some tricks that have made it easier! When you are limited to one carry-on bag, you have to be creative to get everything to fit inside. If you need a week’s worth of outfits, choose versatile pieces that you can mix and match to come up with multiple looks.

It’s usually easier to mix and match when you pair neutrals with a couple fun prints or textures. Here are the 12 pieces I chose:

Leopard flats
Nude heels
Ivory top
Grey cotton V-neck tee
Nude ruffle tank
Denim skinny jeans
White distressed ankle crop jeans
Nude pleated maxi skirt
Black wide-brim fedora
Denim shirt
Black cotton dress
Crochet jacket
(Travel bag from Nena and Co.)

With these 12 pieces I was able to create 8 day-to-evening looks that work for just about any occasion.

A flats-to-heels change is the easiest way to create a day-to-evening look, and choosing shoes that work with any color or combo is the key to only having to pack two pairs! Throwing on an extra layer can also help dress things up. I always pack a tunic sweater or jacket that works with at least two looks.

A hat or two and a few extra accessories are also easy ways to change up a look. For instance, this black wide brim fedora can work with both casual and dressed-up ensembles. A simple black dress can go a long way since there are numerous ways you can style it. Of course, don’t forget your toothbrush and other unmentionable essentials.

What about you? Favorite travel basics? Would love to hear!
