When it comes to lipstick, it’s usually easier to stick with your go-to color than to try a new shade. Trying new colors takes time at the makeup counter and it’s easier to just grab what is in your purse. However, it is pretty cool to see how the right color can complete a look, complement your skin tone and add more tone and dimension to your lips. If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few summer lip trends to try…
1) Summer Nude
Using a nude shade that works with the tone of your skin is important for avoiding a completely washed out look. There are several variations of nude, but I chose a mocha based hue. With each of these three lip trends, it helps to start with a moisturizer like Marc Jacobs lip lock (with SPF). Follow with a neutral lip liner to define and apply a few coats of your lipstick of choice (I used Butter London’s LIPPY Tinted Balm in Toasted Marshmallow). Finish with a long lasting lip gloss with a pink undertone (like Butter London’s LIPPY Liquid Lipstick in Tea With The Queen) to give more of a summer hue to the neutral look. This is light and easy look that can go with everything.
2) Balmy Pink
You can pick up a bright pink lip balm that gives a moist finish to your lip and adjusts well to your tone at your local drugstore. NYX Butter Lip Balm in Parfait is a little more rich in color than a tinted lip balm and avoids the permanence of a lip stain. Apply moisturizer, as mentioned above, followed by a couple coats of the butter lip balm. This is the quickest and easiest way to add color to your face when you’re on the go!
3) Orange Coral
Coral lipsticks range from orange to red tones and the lip liner you choose can drastically change the outcome. I always use a slightly darker lip liner to add more dimension to the lip. After lining your lips, add a couple layers of your lipstick. I think coral looks really fresh with a matte finish! (I used Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Melondrama.)
