Homemade Face Paints for the Fourth of July

eHow Mom Blog RSS

There’s no time like the Fourth of July to happily display your national pride. Along with enjoying the fireworks this year, why not whip up some homemade face paints using the simple, natural recipe below? Your kids will light up at the chance to design and display their very own stars and stripes.

To make homemade face paint, you will need:

  • 1 teaspoon of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon of water
  • red food coloring
  • blue food coloring

Combine the milk, cornstarch and water in a small bowl and add a few drops of food coloring.

To make the white face paint, you won’t need to use any food coloring. Just combine the milk, cornstarch and water.

Now find the nearest artist, and get to painting.

Stars, stripes, flags and fireworks will make for some highly festive faces. The best thing about this paint is that it’s non-toxic and you know exactly what’s going on your kiddo’s face. When the Fourth of July celebration is over, use a wet washcloth to gently scrub the skin clean.
