Virtual Update: Side Table Makeover

eHow Home Blog

It’s a happy day when an email like this one from Kristen appears in my inbox …

Hi, Cara! Once upon a time, I saved two awesome night stands from being tossed. My husband and I have been using them happily for a few years and they’re great, durable pieces. The problem is, I hate the color of the wood. I don’t know enough about furniture to even tell you properly what they’re made of. I want to paint them a different color, but don’t know where to start.

I was thinking I would eventually like them to be black — we have a black pug and if we did them white, all we’d ever see would be fur! Thanks so much for any advice!

Not only am I happy to help, but I’m super excited to put my creative juices to work and whip up a new look for Kristen’s side tables. Let the fun begin!

First things first, we need to give this table a new look with primer and paint. Updating this piece in black or light gray would be heavenly, and since we kept it simple with paint, add a little personality with hardware. These fun pulls from Etsy add a bit of spark and a hint of color without going overboard. Finally, since this piece has an open shelf, keep your bedside necessities organized with a woven basket or add a few stacked books to keep the space looking clean and polished.
