Spice Up Holiday Stockings

eHow Home Blog

While we all wish we could deck our halls from scratch, there are only so many useable hours in each day — and around the holidays we are all spread mighty thin. That doesn’t mean that all holiday craftiness has to go by the wayside, though. Adding some simple flare to store-bought stockings is an easy way to put your personal stamp on the holidays.

Begin by selecting a stocking for your base. No need to spend the big bucks. A basic color scheme with a simple pattern will do the trick.

Head to your local craft store and, well, think crafty! I picked up a few cardboard letters, decorative paper and a few miscellaneous scrapbooking odds and ends to get me started.

I wanted to personalize my stockings with an initial for each recipient, so I traced the craft paper to fit the cardboard letters and secured with a little craft glue.

Next up, a fanciful name tag. Recycling a leftover gift box, I cut two rectangles to use as the base. Then I covered them with craft paper, added a handwritten tag and embellished with a miniature label frame.

Tied together with a bit of ribbon, this fun and super simple project was ready to rock the socks, err stockings, off of holiday guests.
