Before & After: Coat Rack

eHow Home Blog

Though I don’t have children of my own, every now and then I get the itch to rehab a piece of furniture for a kid’s room. It must be the fun patterns and colors so rarely found in a “grown-up” room. When I found this lonely coat rack stranded on the side of the road, I just knew I could give it new life with a few coats of paint – perfect for a young girl’s room.

First and foremost, being the good rehabbers that we are, we always start with a solid coat of primer. Because this coat rack would have been a beast to sand perfectly, I went with an oil-based primer to make sure our paint would hold on tight.

Once the primer was dry, it was time to paint. Following the carved details of the coat rack, I used shades of pink and green to give this piece a girlie flair.

Such an easy transformation! I’m always amazed at what a little paint can do. From dusty and dated to fun and functional, this coat rack is now a great addition to any young girl’s room.
