If there is one thing I love about summer, it’s the food! The fresh fruit, the sweet treats are all so tasty. In fact, I love it so much I don’t want to just eat it, I want to wear it! Behold… watermelon sunglasses! This fun and funky DIY can be done with just a little nail polish (a great excuse to grab a few new bright colors) and you’re on your way to being summer-ready, from head to toe!
Sunglasses with a Wide Rim
Nail Polish in Red and Green (And white if starting with dark rim sunglasses)
Black Nail Art Pen (Or just nail polish!)
Washi or Painters Tape
To protect the lenses while you paint, cover the edges with tape.
If you are starting with a dark color rim like I did, you’ll want to “prime” it first, using white nail polish. Paint the entire rim of the sunglasses. If you are starting with white rimmed sunglasses, just skip to the next step.
Paint the bottom, curved part of the rims with your green nail polish. If you find the nail polish is going on un-even, I recommend letting it dry and applying a second coat.
Now paint the top of your sunglasses with red nail polish! Again, use two coats if necessary. Let dry.
At this point you can remove the tape covering the lenses. Tada! Now, for the finishing touch: seeds! Grab your nail art pen, or just regular black nail polish, and paint on some curved triangle shapes atop the red polish. Let dry. Done!
You can’t get more summery than watermelon sunglasses. Wear them to every pool party, beach day and picnic you can!
