DIY Emotional Baggage Halloween Costume

eHow Crafts Blog

Our Emotional Baggage costume is easy to put together and fun to wear. To make it, you need:

  • Foam board
  • Tan scrapbook paper
  • Assorted travel stickers
  • Nylon webbing
  • Duct tape or gaffer’s tape
  • Box of tissues
  • White and black cream make-up
  • Permanent marker
  • Craft knife
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Hot glue gun
  • Templates

Draw a rounded corner at each corner of the foam board, and use a craft knife to cut along the marked lines.

Draw four rounded corners on the back of the scrapbook paper, and cut them out. Spread glue on the back of each “corner” and attach it to a corner of the foam board.

Draw a handle shape on the back of scrapbook paper. Cut out the handle and glue it to the top of the foam board.

Decorate the foam board with travel stickers, and then write “emotions” on some of the stickers. Use words like, “angry” and “sad” and “lonely.”

Use hot glue to attach one end of the nylon webbing to the back of the foam board, near the top and about one-third of the way in from the edge. When the glue has cooled, hold up the foam board and decide how long to make the webbing. You want the top of the handle to sit about 2 inches below your collarbone. Cut the webbing to fit, and glue the end to the foam board. When the glue has cooled, reinforce the connection with duct or gaffer’s tape.

Glue a box of tissues to the front of the foam board.

Apply white cream make-up to your face. Use a brush to paint black smudges under your eyes, then extend long, dramatic tears down your face.

That’s it! You’re ready to laugh and cry with your friends.

Many, many thanks to Elissa and Carrie, who created the video shown above.
