Waxing is a quick and easy way to remove unwanted hair, and it can easily be done at home with homemade wax. Whether you want to work with hot wax or cold wax, homemade hair removal wax is easy and affordable to make and convenient to use.

Honey and Sugar Wax

For a honey and sugar wax, you will need 7 oz. honey, 7 oz. sugar and the juice from half a lemon. Begin by caramelizing the sugar. Heat the sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Use a wooden spoon to stir the sugar until it starts bubbling and develops a golden color. Once this color is achieved, stir in the honey and lemon juice. Continue stirring the mixture together as it melts. Once the ingredients are thoroughly combined and melted, pour the mass onto a cotton towel. Gently knead the mixture until it becomes golden yellow in color. At this point, the wax is ready to use. Spread the mixture onto your legs and place a cotton strip over the wax. Rub the strip firmly, ensuring a firm adherence. Then, pull the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth.

Hot Sugar Wax

For the hot sugar wax, gather 2 cups sugar, one-quarter cup water and one-quarter cup lemon juice. Add all of the ingredients to a saucepan and heat over low heat. Stir the mixture regularly until the sugar has melted. Once the mixture becomes a thick brown liquid, remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly. You should not see any sugar particles left in the wax. Apply the wax to your skin using either a wooden stick or a butter knife. Place a cotton strip over the wax and ensure that it is adhered completely to the wax. Pull the strip quickly against the direction of hair growth.

Cold Sugar Wax

A cold sugar wax recipe is a nice alternative to hot wax because you will not need to use cotton strips to remove the hair. For the cold sugar wax recipe, you will need 1 cup sugar and one-half cup lemon juice. Add the lemon juice to a small saucepan and heat it over medium heat. Stir the lemon juice as it heats. Once it becomes frothy white and bubbly, add the sugar. Continue stirring as the sugar melts into the lemon juice. Once the mixture becomes thick and takes on a dark gold color, remove it from the heat. Carefully pour it onto a piece of wax paper and allow the mixture to cool. Once it is cool enough to handle, pull off a small piece of wax about the size of a half dollar. Knead this wax until it becomes a light gold color. Apply the wax directly to the skin firmly with your fingers. Once it has adhered to the skin, grab the end of the wax and pull it firmly against the direction of hair growth. The wax should come off in one piece. You can then remold the wax and use it again. Once the wax has lost its ability to remove hair, discard it and use a new piece.
