Silicone utensil

Silicone cookware is made from flexible material that does not require any butter or spray oil to prevent baked goods from sticking. Silicone utensils such as spatulas or stirring spoons are heat resistant, durable additions to any kitchen. While the material can usually simply be wiped clean, there may occasionally be lingering odors from a thin layer of grease covering the surface.

Removing Excess Grease Odors

Silicone utensils may become covered with a film of odorous grease, resulting either from cooking oil or oils within the food. This grease may feel sticky to the touch and will not be easy to remove from the silicone by wiping down the utensil or leaving it to soak in water. Instead, look for a cleaning product that specifically cuts through grease. Allow the silicone utensil to soak in a highly-concentrated solution of degreasing cleaner and hot water. Depending on the severity of the grease, you may choose to soak as long as overnight. After soaking, scrub with a kitchen sponge, rinsing several times to remove any traces of the cleaning solution.

Removing Other Odors

Once the source of the odor has been removed, the odor may remain. Baking soda has natural deodorizing properties and will not impart any scent of its own. Create a paste of equal parts baking soda and warm water. Rub this paste over the silicone and allow it to sit overnight. Scrub off the paste with a clean kitchen sponge.
