Whirlpool Electric Hot Water Heater Troubleshooting
Whirlpool makes a variety of hot water heaters, ranging from 12-gallon to 80-gallon tanks. Keep in mind, before you begin buying replacement parts, that all of their models come with a six-year to 12-year warranty on the parts and the tank. If you run into a problem with your Whirlpool electric water heater that you don't know how to fix, avoid spending time on the phone with customer service by attempting to find a solution for the problem on your own. Lack of Power
-
If you do not have any power to your Whirlpool electric water heater, make sure the electrical switch is turned on. Check for any blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers. Check to see if the high temperature limit switch may be open. If so, reset it. If these steps don't work, you may have a nonfunctioning upper thermostat, which will need to be replaced.
Not Enough Hot Water
-
A lack of sufficient hot water may be a result of the thermostat or the lower element not working properly. Your thermostat may also be improperly calibrated. In any of those cases, the components will need to be replaced. The problem, though, may only be that the thermostat is set too low. Raise it. Sediment or lime may have settled in the tank. Drain the tank and if those elements are present, treat the water for them. Make sure the heater is large enough for the home's needs. Repair any leaking faucets and insulate any long runs of exposed piping or any pipes which are outside the building.
Dripping Valve
-
If your relief valve is dripping, you may be experiencing excessive water pressure. Use the pressure reducing valve and the pressure relief valve to reduce the pressure. You may also have a "closed system." Whirlpool recommends that you have a a diaphragm-type expansion tank installed on the cold water supply line. It must be suitable for potable water.
