High Definition Set Top Box Installation
A high-definition set-top box captures and transmits high-definition and standard signals and programming to your television set. High-definition set-top boxes come with dual tuners so you can watch two programs at once, known as picture-in-a-picture and high-quality stereo sound; and the ability to connect other devices to your television, surround sound devices, DVD player or audio/video receiver.

Supplies
-
You will need a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) cable, if your television has a HDMI port or a set of composite (RCA) cables. An HDMI cable provides the highest-quality audio and video signal to your television. If connecting your surround sound device or your audio/video (A/V) receiver to the set-top box, you will need another set of composite cables, unless the device has an optical cable port. A optical connection transmits the highest-quality sound from the set-top box.
Video
-
Place the set-top box next to or close to your television. Do not place the box on top of your television or other piece of equipment. Heat from devices can damage the set-top box. Plug one end of a HDMI cable into the "HDMI" port on the back of the set-top box. Plug the other end of the cable into the "HDMI" port on the back of your television.
If using composite cables, plug one end of a yellow composite cable into the "Video Out" jack on the back of the high-definition set top box. Plug the other end of the cable into the "Video In" jack on the back of your television.
Audio
-
If you used an HDMI connection, you don't have to worry about connecting audio since HDMI cables transmit both audio and video. If you used a composite connection, you will have to connect two separate composite cables to the "Audio Out--Left" and "Audio Out--Right" jacks on the back of the set-top box. Plug the other end of the cables into the "Audio In--Left" and "Audio In--Right" jacks on the back of your television.
Surround Sound Device or A/V Receiver
-
If you have a surround sound device or A/V receiver, plug one end of a digital audio cable (Optical) into the "Optical" or "Digital Audio" port on the back of the set-top box. Plug the other end of the cable into the "Optical" or "Digital Audio" port on the back of your surround sound device or A/V receiver.
If your surround sound device or A/V receiver doesn't have a digital audio port, you will have to use composite cables (white and red) to complete the connection. Plug one end of the cables into the "Audio Out" ports on the back of the set-top box and plug the other ends into the "Audio In" ports on the back of your surround sound device or A/V receiver.
Digital Cable or Antenna
-
Plug the digital cable or digital antenna's coaxial cable into the "Cable In" or "Antenna In" port on the back of the set-top box. Turn on the set-top box first, then the television. The box will take a few minutes to start up. Press the "Menu" button on the set-top box's remote control. Select the "Channel Scan" or "Auto Scan" function to set up the channels on the set-top box.
