Homemade Health Tonic

Save

A number of commercial health tonics are currently on the market. They can be expensive and their ingredients questionable. The best way to ensure that you are consuming a safe and effective health tonic is to make your own. The best homemade health tonic is fairly simple to create. All you need is water, lemons, a bit of raw sugar and unfiltered, organic apple cider vinegar.

Vinegar

  • The key ingredient of your homemade health tonic is unfiltered, organic apple cider vinegar. A good brand is Braggs. You can find Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar at your local healthfood store or online. Other brands are fine as well; just make sure the vinegar is unfiltered and organic.

Make the Health Tonic

  • To make your apple cider vinegar health tonic, mix 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar with 8 oz. filtered water. Squeeze a lemon and sweeten with raw sugar to taste.

How to Use

  • To reap the many health benefits of your homemade apple cider vinegar health tonic, consume 8 oz. of tonic three times daily. You may also choose to include a higher concentration of apple cider vinegar in your health tonic if your health needs are more intense--for example, if you have a disease like type 2 diabetes. According to WebMD, many studies have shown that apple cider vinegar helps to lower blood sugar levels. One study of 11 type 2 diabetes patients found that those patients who took 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar before bed showed a significantly lower blood sugar level the following morning.

Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar Health Tonic

  • An article by the American Diabetic Association describes a study in which people with insulin resistance followed a vinegar consuming regimen. After taking a does of vinegar, the study participants showed a significant decrease in their blood glucose levels. Apple cider vinegar also properly acidifies your stomach by promoting the release of bile and pancreatic enzymes which your body uses to break down food. This helps your body properly absorb the nutrients in the food you eat. According to WebMD, “a large observational study also found that people who ate oil and vinegar dressing on salads five to six times a week had lower rates of heart disease than people who didn't.”
