Color is probably the most important factor to consider when choosing socks. Select socks that coordinate with your slacks and shoes so your sock and pant transition looks understated and fluid. Most men's shoes are either black, burgundy or brown, but men usually have slacks in more colors. Select socks that match the color of your slacks but coordinate with your shoes. You can choose a solid or patterned sock, depending on your taste. If your socks are exposed when you sit down or walk, an observer's eye naturally follows the socks to the slacks. Do not wear light or white socks with dark slacks because the contrast will ruin the effect of your outfit and be starkly noticeable.
