Homemade Acne & Pimple Treatment for Women Over 30

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne affects 26 to 35 percent of American women between the ages of 30 and 49. The organization also found that adult acne, which is more common in women than men, usually persists into the mid-life range. Many factors cause acne in adult women, including hormonal changes in pregnancy and acne-causing medications like cortisone. When it comes to acne medications, homemade acne treatments are ideal in that they do not cause the side effects associated with over-the-counter drugs; additionally, many of these homemade remedies are easy to prepare as well as inexpensive.

      • Plant remedies have antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties that help combat acne.

One effective remedy is to prepare a facial mask made from honey and apples. Grate the apple into a fine pulp mix and mix it with 4 tbsp. of honey. Apply the mixture to the face and let it stay for 10 minutes. Apply this paste on the affected area before you sleep and rinse it with warm water the next morning. After two weeks, pimples will disappear. You can also replace this apple-and-honey mixture with 3 tbsp. of honey for 1 tsp. of cinnamon powder.

Mashed tomatoes can also do the trick. After draining the juice from the tomatoes, lie on your back and place the tomato pieces on the face while patting them gently. Leave them on for 20 minutes to one hour, then rinse with warm water. Make this part of your daily routine until the pimples disappear.

Another remedy is ground orange peel. After making it into a paste using water, apply it on the acne. Let it stay for 20 to 30 minutes, then wash with lukewarm water. You can substitute the ground orange peel paste with a mixture of mint juice and turmeric powder, a paste of neem leaves and turmeric powder, or raw papaya juice with the skin and seed.

The antimicrobial properties of lime juice can also do wonders for acne-infested skin. Mix fresh lime juice with a glass of boiled milk and use it as a regular face wash until acne disappears.

      Household Remedies

      • Beat an egg white until it is stiff and add a few drops of lemon juice and witch hazel. Spread the mixture over the affected area and wait 15 minutes before rinsing with barely warm water. Egg white has astringent properties that, when combined with the antibacterial effects of lemon juice and with hazel, will remove acne. Egg yolk can also be used instead of egg white.

Ethyl alcohol is another very effective way to treat acne. Alcohol's antiseptic properties keep the face clean from oil and dirt that might irritate and aggravate pimples. With a cotton ball, rub alcohol on the acne before going to bed; however, do not do this more than once daily as alcohol can cause the skin to peel when applied in great amounts.
